Earlier it was Noval company that came out with the server and client concept

1990 : Microsoft introduces Domain Controller Technology . That controls all other machines.-- They called Active Directory /or Active Directory Domains - which is represented by a Triangle

Domain Controller was a server essentially that had a database on it and the database was an Active Directory database
